Best Strategy for quick meetings???

I have been stuck with this problem for a looong time. My manager schedules meetings for 'quick 10mts' and it goes on and on. It always overshoots by a minimum of 50%.

What are the quick and easy techniques to have fixed time meetings?

My ideas:
1. Make it a standup meeting instead of people sitting and listening to it
2. Have a small alarm or bell(subtle) to ring at the end of the meeting time

any more ideas????

Dear People,

Day in and day out we face a lot of challenging situations(where we look like a puppet!) in the office. We crib about them, we cry out loud, we do a lot of whining and twitching...and what not...but lets look at it clearly once again and see what we can do to improve the situation at hand and how best to deal with them. I know we read books - good ones like 'GOAL', 'Art of Project Management' and more....but still some basic thread is missing. Thats peer level knowledge sharing on these issues

So I wanted all those so called IT czars and whiz kids to write here on everyday office politics and challenges that sucks the life out of people and the most important thing - How to find a SOLUTION?

I would appreciate people giving more ideas and suggestions.
